School grades will be separated within each division and awards will be presented in each grade level.
Only one judge will be secured at the rate of $200.00 for the competition. The judge will not be allowed to stay with a teacher, but will be sequestered at a local hotel.
A committee selected by the scholarship chairman will solicit donations from teachers, corporations, local businesses or whoever will make a donation.
Each student will perform one solo composition from memory without repeats, except in the case of a da capo, which completes the form of the piece. Only one movement of a sonata, suite, collection or other multi-movement work will be performed.
Contestants will be allowed a 20 second warm-up consisting of a scale, cadence, or arpeggio prior to their performance. The pedals should be tested at this time. No other practice is allowed on the premises that day. Contestants exceeding the time limits for each level will not be considered for an award.
All teachers who enter students in the contest are expected to assist the Chairman in whatever capacity needed.
All performances shall be open to the public so far as space permits.
Video and audio taping and flash photography are not permitted in the performance room, but permitted at the awards ceremony.
Out of consideration for the performers, young children are discouraged from attending the audition.
The decision of the Judge(s) is/are final. No recall is permitted. Contestants will receive an evaluation rating and certification of participation. Winners will receive cash awards. Honorable mention ribbons will be given at the discretion of the Judge(s). Winners will be announced about 20 minutes after each classification.
MMTA cannot be held responsible for students arriving at the wrong time, entered in the wrong level, or for any music left on the premises. With approval of the Chairman, late arrivals in each level may perform for a rating and a certificate if time permits, but they will not be considered for an award.
